My name is Christine. I’m from Pittsburgh, PA, and have been living in Omaha, NE since 2004. I’m happily married, and we have a few fur babies (cats). We enjoyed hanging out with friends, going to concerts, attending and organizing car club events, designing websites, and helping critters of all kinds.

During my time in Nebraska, I got involved with animal rescue, a car club, and went back to school. I worked in administrative and technical positions, and was quite independent. I was also healthy until 2013.

I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) October 23, 2013. Since then, I have been unable to do any of the things that I enjoyed prior to getting sick. I can’t even drive. There are certain gene mutations that I should have been tested for in Oct 2013 (C-KIT (or “KIT”) & FLT3). Unfortunately, only 1 of 6 tests could be run (and was negative for the mutation), due to how the Oct 2013 material was stored. I had a Bone Marrow Transplant June 2, 2015, which saved my life. Unfortunately, I have many side effects from the transplant (Graft versus Host Disease), which I am currently being treated for.

I’m about 1,000 miles from where most of my family lives, and this has been a very difficult time. I’ve learned a lot about this disease, and chose to create this blog to keep better track of things for myself, to keep my friends and family updated, and I hope that others find it helpful as well. I plan to fill in some of the blanks as I continue to write about recent events.

I have set up a subscription service for those who want to be emailed when a new post is made. You can also contact me via email at ataraxy[at]ataraxy[dot]org
